BESN's Best Of: Sony's Summer State of Play
Sony inadvertently kicked off a summer of video gaming with their State of Play.
The 30-minute showcase highlighted the video games to come for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and PlayStation VR2.
Here are the highlights, honorable mentions and anticipated favorites.
Street Fighter 6
Release Date: 2023; PS4 & PS5
Fighting game players rejoiced Thursday when Capcom's Street Fighter 6 showed a second trailer full of gameplay and easter eggs.
The highly anticipated sixth installment will see the return of favorites such as Chun Li and a World Tour mode, where players will "take their skills around the world in search of their own personal strength."
According to the Street Fighter 6 webpage, this installment will take street culture to the max with graffiti and "music that beats while you hustle and to the fight itself."
Street Fighter 6 will also be available on Xbox Series X/S and Steam.
The Spider-Men Come to PC

Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Fall 2022
Both highly acclaimed and widely sold, these two Spider-Man games are coming to PC after successful runs as PlayStation exclusives.
Ryan Schneider of Insomniac Games credits PlayStation Studios partner Nixxes Software with fully optimizing both games for PC in a post on PlayStation Blog.
"Our production team has been thrilled with Nixxes’ collaborative spirit and commitment to quality," Schneider wrote. "We see a lot of ourselves when working with Nixxes."
The Callisto Protocol
Release Date: Dec. 2, 2022; PS4 & PS5
If you mistook the gameplay reveal trailer as Dead Space or got Dead Space vibes from The Callisto Protocol trailer, you are not alone in that thought.
This single-player survival horror is in development by Glen Schofield's Striking Distance Studios, co-creator of Dead Space.
Set on Jupiter's moon Callisto, in 2320, your objective is to escape the maximum-security Black Iron Prison and discover the incarceration facility's secrets.
Pre-orders for both PlayStation consoles are now available on The Callisto Protocol website, but the game will also be available for new and old generation Xbox consoles and PC.
Resident Evil in Virtual Reality
Release Date: Resident Evil 4, March 24, 2023; PS5 & PS VR2
The two Resident Evil games spark excitement and nervousness found in VR horror games.
Resident Evil 4 will be available on Xbox Series X/S and PC the same day.
If you have a PlayStation 5, Resident Evil 8: Village will soon support PSVR 2. No release date was given for when the support will be available. In the meantime, practice your VR skills; RE8's PSVR 2 might come with motion controls.
Other games that are confirmed to become available for PlayStation VR2 are Horizon: Call of the Mountain; The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners - Chapter 2: Retribution; and No Man's Sky, winner of this year's BAFTA Games Award for Evolving Game.
Stray Arrives Next Month
Release Date: July 19, 2022; PS4 & PS5
This indie game has gathered attention over the last two years, and cat-loving gamers have been waiting.
An orange boi must find his family in a "cybercity" filled with robots.
Stray is a third-person adventure game created by BlueTwelve Studio. It will also be available for both PlayStation consoles and on Steam.
Final Fantasy XVI
Release Date: Summer 2023; PS5
A combined development team of Final Fantasy veterans and devs from games like Dragon Quest, Marvel vs. Capcom and Devil May Cry 5 gives Final Fantasy XVI a stacked employment roster.
The gameplay trailer that debuted last week showed the realm of Valisthea and the ongoing geopolitical conflict regarding magical structures called "mothercrystals."
Unlike other games highlighted on this list, Final Fantasy XVI will only be available on PlayStation 5 as a console exclusive.
