Even though the video game industry isn't ready to jump into in-person events just yet, online events are looking to make just as much noise as their nonvirtual counterparts.
This summer, EVO is back with their Evolution Championship Series, bringing together fighting game fans and fighting game players from all over the world to watch, play, and connect with each other--this time, from the comfort of our couches.
"Evo is committed to the health and safety of our fighters and with that in mind, we are providing a virtual, online experience for all players to do what they do best: compete, take names and bust brackets," says the website's Frequently Asked Questions page.
The event itself, Evo 2021 Online, will take place over two weekends in August with other events taking place over the course of the summer starting June 10. A more detailed schedule will be released at a later date.
"This year, we’re introducing more than 120 additional online regional tournaments with the new Evo Community Series!" EVO says on their website homepage. "We know that part of the Evo experience is the side tournaments, the pop-ups and the spontaneous fun that you have at the venue."
Registration for the tournament is free for everyone and you have until July 15, 2021, at 9 p.m. PST to register for the tournament. Competitive and general rules are available to read and more information about the games being played is available on Evo's website.
